More Bad News For Team Astana
By Ashton | Permalink |Andrey Kashechkin tests positive for blood doping. This news is particularly disappointing because Kashechkin gave his positive sample on August 1st and team manager Marc Biver had given an interview the day before where he bemoaned that the team felt Vinokourov had double crossed him with his own doping violations. I’d recommend the Biver interview to those who are having a difficult time making up their minds about Vino’s guilt or innocence. He does not resolve the issue but the interview offers information I have not seen anywhere else.

So for the Vuelta, Vino’s out, Kashechkin’s out, and now Valverde is out (riding the Tour of Burgos and in the GP of Plouay to prepare the Road World Championships).
So the favorite, assuming he rides, has to be Menchov, or maybe Sastre. As for Discovery, perhaps Tom Danielson has a chance.
This is looking worse for the Vuelta as time goes on. No wonder they are getting bad ratings in Spain…
Sorry, I thought I’d linked it before. Here is a summary of the Biver interview.
I did not want to say anything yet, but Contador has announced that he will issue a statement on Friday but will not accept any questions. The rumor mill is running wild and many people are claiming he will acknowledge his doping duplicity. The most active rumor is that Contador was granted immunity from prosecution in return for cooperating with the prosecution of cases against other offenders. Rather than start a new thread I thought I would wait for Friday’s press conference. It should be over before I get to work Friday.
Sorry again. Here is the link:

Damn, I hope the rumor mill is wrong (again) about Conta. But I guess we’ll all see on Friday, eh?

Wow. Just wow.
Do you have a link to that Biver interview, by chance?
