More Doping in the Tour: Moreni on Testosterone
By Jessica | Permalink |As Vino continues to protest his innocence, Cofidis rider Christian Moreni has tested positive for testosterone use during the Tour de France.
Again, no words. As my colleague Bob said in an email to me earlier this morning, “Either the tests are getting better or the riders are getting dumber.”
For a little amusement amidst the chaos, we have this quote from Vino: “I heard that I made a transfusion with my father’s blood. That’s absurd, I can tell you that with his blood, I would have tested positive for vodka.”
And here’s some reactions to the Vino scandal from some of the big names in cycling, past and present, including the great Eddy Merckx, who had this to say: “This new scandal has left me K.O.’d. Since the start, they talked only of doping on Belgian television. And now, I learn that Vinokourov has played with his blood and that he’s leaving. It might be a good thing. We know now that it’s difficult to cheat and those who break the rules are caught. But, for me, that’s the end of cycling. And, I hope, the start of other things.”
