Milano-Sanremo: Not Live on CyclingTV. Damn.

cryingWell, it’s a sad day in my house, I can tell you that. The husband and I were really - honestly - looking forward to getting up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to tune into Cycling.tv’s live broadcast of Milano-Sanremo. This morning I checked in with Cycling.tv’s friends at Podium Cafe, however, and got some bad news right from the horse’s mouth (otherwise known as Cycling.tv race announcer Anthony McCrossan):

Hello, well I am afraid after Brian and I being so bullish earlier in the week I am the bearer of some bad news. Late last night, Versus informed Cycling.tv that for specifc legal reasons relating to distribution of content, we cannot broadcast Milan San Remo live on the Versus channel tomorrow. We have tried to find a solution to this over the last few hours but at the moment Versus are not in a legal position to broadcast it live on their new channel on Cycling.tv. I know this disappoints you all - believe me, Brian and I are all ready to go and this is completely out of Cycling.tv control.

We will however be showing the race on demand over the weekend.

That just sucks. Big time. I know, beggars can’t be choosers, and we’ve been extremely fortunate to have seen many races live via Cycling.tv that we’ve never seen live before… And yet this is a huge disappointment. Why Milano-Sanremo would be any different - legally speaking, in terms of content - than the Paris-Nice race or the Spring Classics (all of which Cycling.tv showed last year, along with Paris-Nice this year as well) is beyond me.

So, I don’t know what we’ll do tomorrow morning… Perhaps we’ll huddle around the computer, hitting “refresh” on one of any number of live blogs on the event. Perhaps we’ll just cry into our coffee and wait for the rebroadcast on Cycling.tv so we can be at least a little surprised by the outcome. Whatever happens, just remember that you are not alone in your suffering…

UPDATE: There’s a thread going on at Podium Cafe - here - where they’re talking about what other options we addicts have to watch Milano-Sanremo. I hope at least one of them works.
