I’m Scared To Post Anything About Stage 16
By Ashton | Permalink |for fear that the subjects will be caught doping.
Michael Rasmussen survived every blow Team Discovery Channel threw at him today. There still is the possibility that Rasmussen will blow 3 to 5 minutes in the final time trial, but I wouldn’t bet on it. And if he doesn’t, that simply suggests that Johan Bruyneel should have hit him when Contador was fresh and Rasmussen was in trouble. Rasmussen is not a lock to win The Tour, but I would not bet against him at this point. He has worked hard and he has earned it by riding riding smart.
Discovery probably has locked up the White Jersey and the Team Classification. That is more than I expected of them, especially so long as Levi was their leader. That would be a good Tour for them, but will it be good enough to land an exceptional sponsor for next year.
Oh well, I guess I’ll wait to hear that another cyclist got caught cheating. There still is plenty of time left in the day.

I took the morning off and watched the stage. Doping and controvery aside, I thought it was extremely exciting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the top 4 riders in GC alone at the head of the field, slugging it out up the final great climb of the tour with all 3 podium spots in doubt until the final kilometer. It was one of the greatest spectacles I’ve seen in any sport. Rasmussen looks like the man of the hour and Contador the man of the future
Truth be told, I did the same thing Sarge did and have much the same reaction. But we still won’t know for sure until we get to the final time trial. I have not followed The Tour for that many years, but this has been the best one I’ve ever witnessed - start to finish (or at least for 16 stages)!
I just don’t want to jinx anybody.

I think many teams are going to find it difficult to find an exceptional sponsor next season. Would you want to associate your product or company with a sport that is in shambles?
