Giro: It’s Di Luca’s Year
By Jessica | Permalink |
Paolo Savoldelli was the unexpected winner of today’s individual time trial to Verona in completely awful weather, but no one gained enough time on Danilo Di Luca to unseat him from the top spot on the GC. Now all he needs to do is stay upright en route to Milan tomorrow and the victory is his. Which is very cool. The thing that’s most not cool is that Eddy Mazzoleni managed to squeeze past Gilberto Simoni (who sucked during the TT today), so he’ll be on the 3rd step of the podium - behind Andy Schleck in 2nd… At least until they have to take that position away from him for his doping problems. “Clean Giro” my ass.
You can read the race report here.
The thing I’m waiting for now is to see just how much pink Di Luca will be sporting tomorrow. I said this morning to the husband that it would be fun for someone to be so far ahead going into the last day (or, really, be someone who didn’t care about time and just wanted to have some fun) that they’d not only deck themselves out in the color of the leader’s jersey but also put those plastic streamers on their handlebars and spokey-dokes on the wheels. Ooh, or a bell. That would rock.
