CSC Tracking Tagged Riders in Real Time

If you are, like me, one of the countless cycling fans who isn’t in California this week, CSC isn’t just a team to watch for the overall victory - they’re helping you see the race in a virtual way.
Several riders will be wearing an OmniLocation tracking device which will give their locations on the course in almost real time. The top five riders will wear the devices during each stage, as will one Team CSC and one T-Mobile rider every day. The device, which weighs about three ounces and operates rather like a mini cell phone, will be able to “pinpoint a rider’s position within just a few yards, which is much more accurate than plan GPS.”
In order to see this exceptionally cool technology in action, “CSC will provide a full-screen map of the riders’ whereabouts through a web application it created using Google Maps” and another application which can be see on the Tour of California’s website during the race.
