Breaking News: Another Tour Rider Tests Positive?

By Jessica | Permalink | 5 comments | July 27th, 2007 | Trackback

This just in from PodiumCafe:

I’ve caught that the Danish press and French Radio are reporting that another rider tested positive on stage 14. [Link in Danish, sorry. Stay tuned.] All we’re told is it was someone wearing a leader’s jersey, and Barloworld’s hotel is apparently under Gendarmerie assault.

Shit.

Well, there’s apparently a press conference scheduled for later, but a Belgian news source is already saying it’s Soler. Dammit, dammit, dammit.

meanwhile, my favorite cycling blog has an interesting proposal today to address doping in cycling: http://www.fatcyclist.com/2007/07/27/cycling-and-doping-a-solution/

Not sure I agree, but definitely good to put it out there in the interest of discussion.

Two things…

1. Yeah, I’m not sure I agree with everything in that post, either, but it’s interesting.

2. What?!? You mean *this* isn’t your favorite cycling blog?!?

So, it turns out it was all a weird rumor. No positive test, no nothing. Thank goodness. And, as PodiumCafe notes in the original link in the post above, hopefully someone will apologize to Soler.
