I know even less about world travel than I do about cycling. My wife is the true traveler in our family. Sigh, somebody has to stay behind to watch the kids and feed the dogs!

She did take me with her once. We visited London (I for the first time) just after Christmas last year. What a marvelous town! Somewhere I have a “hard” copy of the picture of my buddy and me just outside of Lee Ho Fook’s Chinese restaurant (immortalized by Warren Zevon in the song titled above). I would love to post it here, but I don’t have a digital copy. Sorry.

I’m sure the cameras will be focused on the riders Saturday, as well they should be. But as those cameras follow the athletes through these historic sections of this significant city, please take some time to enjoy what you are seeing.

Cyclingnews.com’s Ben Atkins is even more excited than I am. He posted this article after riding the prologue route and taking pictures of some of the more memorable tourist sites it passes. The beginning of the first stage is in London too, starting near Trafalgar Square. Ben wrote this article pointing out some of the major London attractions it passes.

If you’ve never been to London, please view all of Ben’s pictures and read his articles. They will help you appreciate the truly historic nature of this old city. If anyone has a way to capture the prologue and DVD to disc, would you please let me know. I think I am going to want to keep these to watch during the Winter.

If you just want to hear the song again, then please mash here.
