There’s a new race on the cycling calendar, and it might not attract as much attention if it weren’t for the size of the winner’s purse. The winner of the inaugural Race of Champions in Abu Dhabi this November will walk away one million dollars richer.

It’s not just the winner who’ll walk away with moola, though - 2nd place gets $60,000 and 3rd $30,000. The field will be made up of nine teams with eight riders apiece, including the winners of each of the grand tours.

The race itself is only three stages - a 90km flat stage, a 90km mountain stage, and then, after a rest day (they need a rest day after two days of riding?!?), a 20km individual time trial. That’s more than $300,000 per day of riding. Nice work if you can get it.

More about the race from the press conference here.
