It’s an Annual Party at Alpe d’Huez’s “Dutch Corner”

If I wasn’t already an Italophile, I’d fall in love with the Dutch in a second. For one thing, they proudly wear my favorite color - orange - and for another, they’re the craziest cycling fans I’ve ever seen. I’m quite convinced that if there were such a thing as a Dutch pimp, he’d look like this guy, who we saw in Salzburg in September.
In 1999, we were just down the switchback from Dutch Corner on Alpe d’Huez, so we got to watch the Dutch fans in their full glory, all day long. They take over a wee bit of real estate on the Alpe and claim it for Holland every year. Here’s a great video of an Aussie reporter interviewing folks on Dutch corner.
Good, good stuff.
