When doping becomes a parody: “EPO, Te Quiero”

What’s that old saying, something about if you weren’t laughing you’d be crying? Well, that’s the state of the world for many cycling fans these days. On the laughing end of things, we now have a song (with video) parodying doping in cycling. It’s from the same group that made up a little ditty last year after the infamous World Cup Final headbutt between Zinadine Zidane and Marco Materazzi. I don’t even think you need to speak the language to find it amusing, but I found someone’s rough translation for it, which is below the video.

So, laugh along with me. Or cry. Whichever comes first.

EPO TE QUIERO - LAPLAGE

Rough translation, courtesy of the message boards at VeloNews:

EPO I love you. Because of you I will be number one. Because of you I will get to wear the nicest jersey. I’m riding my bike in the country side, without much effort and no complex. When I feel a little tired, I stop by the road and use an old remedy to get me going again. And when I reach the end of the stage, I’m acclaimed as a hero. I don’t drink the champagne, I prefer my EPO. “Attention everyone, every morning, with EPO, be one step ahead.” I’ll be prettier than Laurent Fignon, stronger than Polidor, crazier than Virenque and much nicer than Bernard Hinault. Thanks to you my EEEEEEEPO.
