The Deutschland Headed Into The Hills Today

but not far enough to avoid a bunch sprint, given the long descent leading to the finish. The German weather was much improved over Friday’s stage and the scenery was often breath-taking. The Black Forest bears no resemblance to the ominous pictures the name generated in my fertile mind as a youth. This part of Germany is absolutely beautiful

Milram’s Erik Zabel sprinted past Rojas (Caisse d’Epargne) and Mcgee (Française des Jeux ) to win the stage. The second most exciting thing about the finish happened when a fan interfered with T-Mobile’s Gerald Ciolek, who up until that point looked as though he had perfectly timed his sprint to win the stage. Yellow Jersey wearer Jens Voigt was right behind Ciolek as he began to wobble on his bike. There was no room in the crowd at the front of the Pelaton for Voigt to have maneuvered around Ciolek if he had fallen, but he managed to keep his bike upright and the two finished without incident.

Everything still sets up for Tuesday’s stage when the Pelaton will undertake the highest climb on the Pro Tour this year. Let’s see if Leipheimer still has his legs and can take the Yellow Jersey on that mammoth climb.
