How early is too early to get up for a bike race?

yawnThe husband emailed me yesterday to announce that in our time zone, Cycling.tv’s coverage of the Tour of Flanders would begin at - wait for it - four o’clock in the frigging morning on Sunday. Holy crap. I love the bike racing, but there’s no way in hell I’m getting up at 4 AM to watch a bike race. I think I’d be hard-pressed to find that a worthwhile way to spend a weekend morning even if someone I knew was riding in the thing.

At any rate, I’ll be getting up at the much more reasonable 6:30 AM in order to catch the last couple hours of the race, and I’ll be mightily pleased with that.

The husband also noted that the Versus coverage of Flanders is a full two hours on Sunday afternoon, which is good news - their not-even-one-hour coverage of the Criterium International last weekend was laughable… Almost as laughable has hearing the venerable Phil Liggett read promos for bull-riding, hockey and whatever else Versus is trying to pimp that day. Seriously, do they think all of us cycling fans are going to have some light bulb go off over our heads, saying, “Oh, wow, I should really be tuning in for bull-riding, not cycling. Thanks for showing me the light, Versus!”

I’ll be napping Sunday afternoon, too, so please don’t call me.
