Breaking: Sinkewitz Tests Positive and Other Doping News

By Jessica | Permalink | No Comments | July 18th, 2007 | Trackback

Here’s some bits of bad news if you’re among the people who think cycling is squeaky clean now:

  • T-Mobile’s Patrik Sinkewitz tested positive for testosterone in an out-of-competition test in early June. This is the team that’s supposed to be ushering in a new anti-doping world in the sport, remember. And Sinkewitz looks to be the first guy who signed the infamous pledge to be in trouble. They’re awaiting the results of the B sample, but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.
  • Eddy Mazzoleni, recently suspended by Astana and this year’s 3rd place podium finisher in the Giro d’Italia, isn’t cooperating with the “Oil for Drugs” investigation CONI is conducting. It was reported that he was retiring from the sport rather than answer questions, but it turns out he just doesn’t want to answer questions without actually retiring. This is the guy who was already under investigation before the Giro started, and who - in my everso humble opinion - should never have been allowed to ride in that race. At all.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled depression about doping in cycling.
