A bit of news while we wait for the Tour of California’s penultimate stage to start…

  • Is Jens Voigt giving up the idea of winning in California? Not yet: “We’ll decide tomorrow morning or tonight in the meeting what we’re going to do,” Voigt told VeloNews on Friday night. “If we are going to turn this thing around, it’s got to be something bold, where you really go from the beginning, left, right, center, attack all over the place. It’s got to be something really hard, like unleashing hell on everybody.”
  • Voigt is a man with a sense of humor… After his stage win the other day, he said, “The race isn’t over until the fat lady sings! We don’t have expressions like that in German so I like to say that one.”
  • An article in the Los Angeles Times is reporting that the positive tests done on Floyd Landis in that French lab “show a protocol violation.” Y’know, because his case couldn’t get any more complicated.
  • Is Jan Ullrich retiring from cycling, or joining Team Volksbank? We’ll find out Monday.
  • This might be Paolo Bettini’s first race on US soil, but the town he’s from in Italy is called La California. Perhaps his stage win this week was fate.
