Around the Web on Wheels: 2 February 2007
By Jessica | Permalink |The wheels on the bike go round and round…
- Floyd Landis has “pretty much written off this season,” which isn’t surprising. I don’t know how anyone could be expected to mount a massive legal defense and concentrate on training at the same time… And that would be assuming said person had a team to even train with, which Landis doesn’t.
- A 1995 interview with a top cycling team doctor has just been made public, and in the interview the doc says he knew riders were using growth hormones. He says he’s going to sue the Belgian paper that published the interview for defamation.
- I wouldn’t say that animosity toward the ProTour is near the opposition some feel toward the BCS system, but it’s certainly not beloved. Pat McQuaid says the UCI is willing to negotiate with race organizers, and thinks a solution can be found before the start of the first race in the ProTour season (Paris-Nice, beginning March 11).
- Lance Armstrong made an appearance at the Discovery team’s training camp, fully kitted out in the team’s new gear.
- Tom Boonen likes winning in Qatar, but he’d like to add a notch for Milano-Sanremo onto his cleats.
- The 2009 Vuelta a EspaƱa (assuming cycling is still a viable sport by then) will apparently start in the Netherlands.
- Rabobank and Gerolsteiner join the ranks of the teams asking for DNA samples from all their riders.
- Those out-of-competition blood tests professional cyclists have to submit to are set to increase.
- The Daily Peloton has an interview with USADA’s General Counsel. In other words, he’s the prosecution on the Floyd Landis case.
