Around the Web on Wheels: 06.11.07

As you can tell, I’m not posting as much here at the moment… Yes, there’s racing going on (I’ve gotten up early the last couple of days to watch the Dauphine), but I’m giving myself a break before Le Grande Boucle begins on July 7. Of course, I’ll pop in now and again, especially when there’s news. Like there is now.

  • Were the last couple of “big” news items (Vandenbroucke’s attempted suicide and the raids on Quick-Step team members’ homes which resulted in drug confiscations) both fake? WTF is up with that? Does anyone actually think that cycling’s real news isn’t interesting enough right now?
  • I don’t think for a minute that the Giro which just ended was 100% clean, and I don’t think it’ll ever really be possible to have a race be 100% clean. But I do think that anyone who’s on the Operacion Puerto list and hasn’t been cleared completely shouldn’t be racing. It looks like the UCI is going to lay down the law a bit more in a week about what riders can and cannot race in Tour.
  • With the way the confessions are rolling out of Team Telekom right now, I can’t say I believe Walter Godefroot that he knew nothing of what was going on. Personally, I think this picture speaks volumes.
  • I’ve said before that I’m a Pollyanna - I want to believe these guys when they say they’re innocent, dammit - so I’m pleased that someone else admits to being an optimist. Chris at the Podium Cafe has written “The Optimist’s Take,” well worth the read.
