My heart is all a-flutter - the racing season has started, and the big boys are beginning to show the form they’ll hope to display a few weeks or months from now. With Alberto Contador taking home yet another stage-race win in Castilla y Leon, Danilo DiLuca robbing the baby-faced Riccardo Ricco of a hometown win in the Coppi e Bartali, and Tom Boonen winning the Dwars door Vlaanderen… Yes, it’s going to be a fun season.

Some news for you on this fine Friday, the last in March:

  • David Millar’s got some theories about how to get rid of doping in cycling; he talked to VeloNews, and Podium Cafe has an opinion about what he said.
  • Ivan Basso (*sigh*) might have quit Tirreno-Adriatico with a bum wrist, but he looks to be back in fine form - he did well in the Castilla y Leon time trial and finished the overall race in 13th place. Even more important was the condition of his Discovery teammates - they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the Grand Tours.
  • Speaking of My Boyfriend, PEZ Cycling hung out with him and some Discovery folks in a San Diego wind tunnel - the report is interesting, even if you’re not a gearhead (or infatuated with Ivan Basso).
