85 hours on a stationary bike? Where does that get you?

Let it never again be said that cycling isn’t a big deal in the United States. All it takes is the pursuit of a dream to get Americans pedaling. In this case, an Illinois man may have ridden his way into the Guinness Book of World Records by spending 85 hours on a stationary bike. He averaged 20.5 km/hr and covered more than 1600km (I know, I know, metric measurements for an American record… I’m getting the stats from an Australian website and I’m not capable of doing the math. If you’ve got the US-friendly numbers, send ‘em my way.)
George Hood was allowed a five minute break for every hour of riding, and took a few naps, but was still rushed to the hospital at the end of it all as he was “dangerously fatigued.” The report says that Hood, a Drug Enforcement Administration supervisor, used the stunt to raise $25,000 for an organization that helps the families of fallen police officers. As any red-blooded American male will tell you, though, the real coup is getting into the Guinness Book of World Records. Fingers crossed the Guinness people certify his attempt - it’s just the kind of thing that’ll get Americans really interested in cycling, don’t you think?
